Living Room Transformation

Living Room Transformation

DIY | June 2021

Hi, I’m Gianna

Today, I’d like to share the transformation process of the most extensive project I’ve undertaken – the living room interior. First, take a look at the ‘Before’ pictures below!

The first thing we wanted to change was the striped paint.

Our house is three stories high and covers approximately 2000 square feet. Since it’s a tall, narrow-style home with a small lot, creating the illusion of space and expansion was crucial. That’s why we decided to use white paint instead of choosing muted colors.

Choosing from various white colors was quite challenging. I decided on a white color without any yellow or gray undertones. The color name is Behr: Polar Bear (flat).

Before painting, I gathered all the items in the living room to the center and placed unused bed sheets on the floor. I didn’t cover the entire floor, just the areas where I was going to paint, which saved me a lot of prep time. I also applied primer to the striped sections to even out the tone.”

Now, let’s get into painting. After a few paint projects, I’ve reached a point where I don’t even use masking tape. I start by painting the edges where the ceiling meets the walls and then use a roller for the overall coverage.

I applied two coats of paint, and the coverage turned out great. Now it’s time to hang the curtains. The curtains were already in the house when we purchased it, but they couldn’t be cleaned, and they had accumulated a lot of dust. So, I replaced them with clean cotton curtains.”

In the ‘Before’ photos, you can see that the table was quite far from the kitchen, making the flow a bit too long. So, I moved the table closer to the kitchen and created a living space in the area where the table used to be, with a rug, sofa, and chairs.

Are you ready to see the transformation of my living room?

While moving, there were areas in the house that I wanted to fix and update, but it wasn’t as easy as I thought. It felt like everything had to align – time, budget, and circumstances – to make updates possible. However, being a DIY enthusiast allowed me to invest in the house without spending on labor costs. If you need more details on any products, please leave a comment. See you next time!
